How to sign up for the ZOE Hopewalk Lockin as a youth!
Here’s what you’ll do:
1. Sign up with your youth leader to be matched with a Hope Walker in Kenya. You can sign up by yourself or together with 1-2 partners. This means that you will raise twelve $30 sponsorships for your Walker, either by yourself or together with your partner(s).
If you are working with two partners, you each need to raise four sponsorships of $30 ($120 total). If you are working with one partner, you each need to raise six sponsorships of $30 ($180 total). If you are working by yourself, you will need to raise all twelve sponsorships by yourself ($360 total).
These sponsorships will allow a new family of orphans to work with ZOE Ministry for a year, so that they can begin to live free from poverty.
If you are having trouble raising the money, talk with your youth leader.
2. You will get a sheet of paper from your youth leader that has your Hope Walker’s story and twelve spaces on it, one for every month of a year (see sample sheet). This is where you will keep track of sponsorships for your Walker.
Each person will sign up for one or more months, and will give you $30 for each month. This is because $30 is the cost for a family of orphans to work with ZOE for one month. Twelve of these sponsorships will help a new family for one year.
If the sponsors write checks, they should make them out to your church, with “ZOE Hope Walk 2010” in the memo line.
You should also ask the sponsors to write their contact information on the line next to their month(s), if they are willing.
3. You will keep collecting this information and money until you have filled out your sheet, whether by yourself or with your partners. Then you will turn in the sheet and all of the money ($360 total) to the person your youth leader identifies, no later than Dec 3.
If you finish filling out your sheet, you can raise more money by printing off another sponsorship sheet and starting on a new year of sponsorships.
The person who raises the most money will win a free trip to Africa! That person will need to have parental permission and take care of his/her own passport and shots.
4. You should also participate in fundraising by doing the following:
Sending at least five sponsorship letters to people outside your church. Your youth leader will provide letters and response cards; you can use them or make your own.
Helping your youth leader inform your church about the Hope Walk (for example, reading announcements in church, filling bulletins, standing at sign-up tables to sign up sponsors, or helping with any other fundraisers you work out with your leader).
4. Come to the lock-in on Dec 3 starting at 9:00 EST, turning in any money/sponsorship sheets, permission slips or medical forms that you have not already turned in.
6. Pray for the orphans, for your youth group, and for the Hope Walk!
